Diego Maradona takes director role with Dinamo Brest in Belarus

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Diego Maradona is leaving the dugout for the director's box.

The former Argentina great announced on Tuesday that he will become chairman of Belarusian club Dinamo Brest, who play in the country's top division.

The 57-year-old Maradona posted a photo of his new contract on his Instagram, with the note: "Thanks for the confidence and for thinking of me."

The 1986 World Cup champion recently finished a tenure as coach of the United Arab Emirates' second-division club Al Fujairah. His contract was not extended after he failed to reach the country's top flight.

Dinamo Brest said on its Twitter account that Maradona signed a three-year deal, and will take up the role after the World Cup in Russia ends.
