Sources: Title fight added to Bellator MSG card

Bellator is adding a title fight to its return to Madison Square Garden in June.

According to multiple sources, the winner of the upcoming Rory MacDonald-Jon Fitch welterweight title fight is slated to meet Neiman Gracie on the June 14 card.

MacDonald is set to defend the 170-pound title against Fitch at Bellator 220 on April 27 in San Jose, California, in a Bellator welterweight Grand Prix quarterfinal matchup. The winner versus Gracie would be a semifinal fight. The other semifinal, Douglas Lima versus Michael Page, is already set for May 11. The winner will not only be Bellator welterweight champion but will also win $1 million.

If the winner of the fight isn't healthy enough to advance, alternate Lorenz Larkin could enter the tournament because Bellator wants New York's Gracie to be on the card.

Gracie (9-0) advanced to the semis when he defeated Ed Ruth via fourth-round submission in December.

The event, Bellator 222, which will mark the promotion's second trip to MSG, will also feature Chael Sonnen versus Lyoto Machida. Bellator has yet to determine which fight will headline the card, sources say. The card will air live on the DAZN streaming platform.
