Ashton threatens to dump the dive

England wing Chris Ashton claims his fourth try, England v Italy, Six Nations, Twickenham, London, England, February 12, 2011 Getty Images

England wing Chris Ashton has threatened to abandon his 'swallow dive' try celebration, admitting he is fed up with the fuss it has caused.

Ashton, who has scored nine tries in ten international appearances, performed his trademark dive against France, only to have the try disallowed after fly-half Toby Flood was penalised for a forward pass. Ashton claims he "still can't work out what was wrong with [his] try", but admits he is considering finding a different celebration to avoid further controversy.

"I'm not sure [the dive] will be coming out any more," Ashton said in the Daily Mail. "I've had enough of it and all the fuss it has caused."

Ashton may have failed to cross the whitewash against France but his six tries in England's opening two victories leaves him on top of the scoring charts and he is desperate to get back on the scoresheet against Scotland. "Our last game against France was a frustrating one for me," Ashton said. "I had a try disallowed, there was another chance that I didn't make the most of and I just didn't do as well as I'd hoped, so I am ready to make up for that when we play Scotland. I really don't like to go two games without scoring so I'm determined that won't happen."

Scotland are yet to pick up a point in their opening three Six Nations matches, but Ashton has warned Grand Slam-chasing England to underestimate the Scots at their peril. "Scotland have come up just short in every game, but they haven't been battered," he said. "I think they will throw everything at us -- the whole kitchen sink. As Johnno has said, they haven't got anything to lose coming to Twickenham and we have to be ready for that. If we underestimate them we'll be in trouble."
