The Southern Kings have added scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer and prop NJ Ooshuizen to their squad for the remainder of the PRO14 season, the union confirmed on Monday.

The pair will go straight into contention for the weekend, when the Kings host Irish side Leinster at the Nelson Mandela University's Madibaz Stadium on Sunday.

Ungerer returns to the Kings from the Pumas, while George-born Ooshuizen has previously been playing his rugby for Griquas.

"Given the duration of the PRO14 and how tough the competition is, it is important that we have depth in our squad," Kings coach Deon Davids was quoted by the team's website. "We are always looking at boosting critical positions, and the addition of these two players will help us in terms of squad depth and strengthening certain positions."

Ungerer is pleased with the opportunity to return to Port Elizabeth after a year away with the Pumas.

"I'm happy to be back at the Southern Kings. I'm looking forward to once again make a contribution to the side, now in a different competition. I'm excited to be part of an international competition like the PRO14," Ungerer said.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the Pumas setup in the past year. I have grown as a player and have learnt a lot of valuable lessons in my time there which have helped me grow as a player." The Kings have won just one of their seven matches so far this season and were 41-34 losers at home to the Llanelli Scarlets on Friday.
