Tom Wright has signed a one-year extension with the Brumbies and Rugby Australia as he seeks to be among the new inclusions for the start of Dave Rennie's Wallabies era.
Wright has among the form Australian wingers in 2020, the Brumbies youngster proving himself a quality finisher with a dangerous mix of speed and skill.
After finding himself in and out of the Brumbies line-up in 2019 in his first season since switching from the NRL, Wright has nailed down the left wing spot in Canberra this year with six tries in nine games across Super Rugby and Super Rugby AU.
While he has only signed a one-year extension, Wright says he wants to stay in rugby beyond 2021.
"I'm really happy to be staying at the Brumbies and in Canberra next season," Wright said.
"I've loved every minute with the club so far and I've formed some special relationships with my teammates, so to know I'll be here next season is awesome.
"Having that sorted for next year is great and now I can just concentrate on performing for the club and doing my best for the team as we aim to win Vodafone Super Rugby AU.
"Beyond next year will take care of itself, but I certainly plan to be in Canberra for a long time."
Brumbies coach Dan McKellar said Wright's shift to the wing from the centres was identified ahead of this season and that he was thrilled with how the 23-year-old had taken to the new position.
"We're delighted Tom is staying with our group next season.
"At the start of the year, myself and assistant coach Peter Hewat sat down with Wrighty to talk about potential opportunities for game time and we all felt he could excel on the wing and he's been outstanding for us this season.
"He's a genuine game changer, someone who can cut open a defence at any time and for a young man, his communication on the field and just how he conducts himself in our environment is a real positive for our group and club."
"Off the field, he's a really popular member of the squad and we hope to see him in a Brumbies jersey and even potentially Wallaby gold for years to come."
Wright is in contention for a spot among the Wallabies' outside backs alongside the equally in-form James Ramm and Filipo Daugunu, who are also yet to make their international debuts.
"Tom has been in terrific form for the Brumbies in the last 18 months and it certainly hasn't gone unnoticed by Wallaby selectors,' RA's Director of Rugby Scott Johnson said.
"Nothing is guaranteed around future honours though and Tom is fully aware he has to continue to knuckle down and work hard to earn that gold jersey.
"Tom is part of a very exciting and young group of talent and his commitment is just another sign of a bright future for Australian rugby."
