The All Blacks have brought Beauden Barrett back into the starting line-up at fullback for the Rugby Championship Test against the Wallabies on Saturday, which doubles as the first of two Bledisloe Cup clashes.

New Zealand go into the match on the back of successive losses to the world champion Springboks and coach Scott Robertson has made four changes, one positional, to his run-on side for the clash at Stadium Australia.

Beauden Barrett's return in the No. 15 jersey means a shift to the right wing for Will Jordan with Caleb Clarke recalled to the left wing after recovering from injury. Mark Tele'a drops to the bench as back three cover.

"When Caleb came back, the best balance for us was to put Beauden at fullback and Will on the wing," Robertson told reporters on Thursday.

"They've had a great combination there, all three of them have. (Will)'s played some great test footy on the wing. Just because he's starting on the wing doesn't mean he can't finish at fullback."

Up front, loosehead prop Ethan de Groot, also returning from injury, slots straight back into the starting front row with hooker Codie Taylor and Tyrel Lomax.

Tamaiti Williams drops to the bench as cover for de Groot alongside tighthead prop Pasilio Tosi, who looks set to win his second cap in the absence of the injured Fletcher Newell.

New Zealand are expected to get back to winning ways in convincing fashion on Saturday, having lost only one of their last 12 meetings with their trans-Tasman Sea rivals.

Australia last held the Bledisloe Cup in 2002.

Robertson said the Wallabies would carry few scars from their record defeat against the Pumas two weeks' ago, backing Australia coach and fellow Kiwi Joe Schmidt to have corrected the issues that saw his team ship 67 points in Santa Fe.

The All Blacks coach also revealed he had caught up with friend and rugby league immortal Andrew "Joey" Johns, the two men sharing a wave and plenty of conversation about the All Blacks' playmaking options.

"He enjoys his rugby, he knows his footy," Robertson said.

"I was really impressed with him. He loves a standoff, or a 10, and he knows the details of them and he's still in love with Carlos Spencer.

He knows all the pivots, you know, 'when are you getting Richie (Mo'unga) back [from Japan] and that. Geez, it's gone global. He's a good man."

The All Blacks have held the Bledisloe since 2003 and have won the last seven straight trans-Tasman contests, the Wallabies' most recent victory coming back in 2020.
