Is June Mar Fajardo clear-cut BPC? SMB star at forefront of race

Reigning four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo is leading the race for the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference by a wide margin.

The San Miguel superstar is averaging 22.8 points, 13.2 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, 1.8 assists and 0.6 steals per game and is at the forefront to win the award with 44.1 statistical points (SP) at the end of the elimination round.

If Fajardo - who leads the league in points and rebounds - is named BPC this conference, it would be his fifth straight for the Philippine Cup and sixth overall.

Trailing far behind him in second place is San Miguel teammate Arwind Santos, who averages 16.3 points and 10.5 boards, with 37.6 SPs.

Rounding out the top five candidates for BPC are GlobalPort's Stanley Pringle with 35.6 SPs, Blackwater's JP Erram with 35.3 SPs and Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar with 34.2 SPs.

SMB's Marcio Lassiter (32.4), Ginebra's Scottie Thompson (32.3), GlobalPort's Sean Anthony (32.2), Magnolia's Paul Lee (31.5) and Phoenix's Matthew Wright (31.4) complete the top ten.

Fajardo's Beermen are the number one seed heading into the Philippine Cup playoffs and will face the eigth-seeded TNT KaTropa with a twice-to-beat advantage.

Meanwhile, NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena leads all rookies with 27.0 SPs after averaging 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game in the eliminations.

Ranking second is Alaska's Jeron Teng with 25.2 SPs, followed by Phoenix forward Jason Perkins with 22.3 SPs. Blackwater's Raymar Jose and Rob Herndon round out the top five with 20.3 and 15.8 SPs, respectively.
