Biggest post-draft questions still to be answered by the Dallas Cowboys:
Betting on the house: The Cowboys felt better about their pass-rush than many believed. First-rounder Taco Charlton will have an impact from the first day, but the Cowboys did not add another pass-rusher the rest of the way. Two defensive tackles were selected in the seventh round (Joey Ivie and Jordan Carrell). The Cowboys believe they will have a better rotation of pass-rushers with Benson Mayowa, who led the team with six sacks last season, a healthy DeMarcus Lawrence, an improving David Irving and a healthier Tyrone Crawford. Is there a dynamic rusher in that group? Most likely not, but they should have more than 36 sacks this season.
Where’s the QB?: The Cowboys have only two quarterbacks on the roster in Dak Prescott and Kellen Moore. They considered drafting Brad Kaaya, but he went to the Detroit Lions at the bottom of the sixth round. The good news is that because of their situation, the Cowboys should be able to land a solid college free agent. Maybe not the second coming of Tony Romo, an undrafted signee in 2003, but somebody to make the practice squad as a rookie at the very least.
Not a lot of room: The Cowboys drafted two wide receivers in Ryan Switzer (fourth round) and Noah Brown (seventh round), which added to a group that already had Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley and Brice Butler. Switzer will be a backup to Beasley and handle punt return duties, which looks like it will slide Lucky Whitehead, the returner the last two seasons, down the line. The Cowboys were solid at receiver before the draft. Depth helps, but does it answer a question?
Third-down openings: The Cowboys heavily considered drafting San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey in the fourth round, but Philadelphia traded up in front of them and took him in the fourth. The Cowboys might have selected Switzer anyway, but Pumphrey would have filled the role Lance Dunbar had the last few years and been a returner. Pumphrey is slight (5-foot-8, 176 pounds) but could have been a dynamic space player.
