Rookie WR Will Fuller still has ways to go on Texans' depth chart

A breakdown of the 2016 Houston Texans draft class and its progress after two weeks of training camp.

Will Fuller, WR, first round: The Texans' first-round pick has impressed in training camp with his speed and athleticism, and he seems to be working well with quarterback Brock Osweiler. Surprisingly, Fuller was listed behind Jaelen Strong, Keith Mumphery, and Cecil Shorts III on the first depth chart. Expect him to pass at least Mumphery and Shorts III by the end of the preseason.

Nick Martin, C, second round: Martin is in a competition to be the starting center with the more experienced Tony Bergstrom. Though Martin has missed three-straight practices this week with an undisclosed injury that head coach Bill O'Brien called "not that serious," he was named the starter on the first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. Earlier in camp, O’Brien called Martin "one of the better rookies that [he’s] been around."

Braxton Miller, WR, third round: Though Miller was a third-round pick, he has a lot of competition for a spot among the receivers. He will likely be used in the slot, and eventually specialty formations, so it will be interesting to see how O’Brien utilizes him in the preseason.

Tyler Ervin, RB, fourth round: Ervin has looked really good in camp, and he was named the starting kick returner on the first official depth chart. Though he might make an impact as a third-down back behind Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue, he will likely make the biggest impression with his return game.

KJ Dillon, S, fifth round: Dillon will have to break through an experienced secondary if he wants to see much playing time this season. He is listed behind Quintin Demps, Eddie Pleasant, and Kurtis Drummond at strong safety on the depth chart.

D.J. Reader, DT, fifth round: Reader is the backup nose tackle behind Vince Wilfork. If he develops to his potential, he might give the Texans an option in a few years when Wilfork is gone.
