Texans agree to void final 3 years of Stefon Diggs' contract (1:14)

Adam Schefter details the Texans agreeing to void the final three years of Stefon Diggs' contract, allowing him to become a free agent after the 2024 season. (1:14)

The Houston Texans have nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft, but they do not have a first-round selection.

Houston traded out of the the first round last month, sending the pick to the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans do not draft until 42nd, which is a complete 180 from last year when they drafted second overall before trading up to also take the No. 3 pick. Houston has been a part of several deals over the past couple of years, which has resulted in having only three of their original selections this year.

But Houston has been busy in free agency, spending the most guaranteed money of any team, so it enters the draft having done most of its offseason work in free agency.

The draft will take place at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit from April 25 through April 27. Round 1 starts at 8 p.m. ET, while Rounds 2 and 3 will be April 26, starting at 7 p.m. ET. Rounds 4 through 7 begin at noon ET on April 27. The draft will broadcast on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and the ESPN App. There are 257 total picks in the draft.

Here's the full list of the Texans' draft picks by round, along with a look at their top roster needs headed into the 2024 season.

Top three needs: CB, DT, WR. The Texans signed two former top-10 picks from the 2020 draft, Jeff Okudah and CJ Henderson, at cornerback. Both are talented, but neither developed into what their draft billing suggested, so the Texans could use more corner help.

At defensive tackle, they lost both starters from last season. Sheldon Rankins signed with the Bengals, and the Maliek Collins trade to the 49ers was originally supposed to involve Arik Armstead, but that aspect of the deal fell apart. They signed Denico Autry, who posted 11.5 sacks in 2023, but have unproven guys behind him. Lastly, the Texans tried to acquire Keenan Allen from the Chargers, which shows that they're looking for more receivers. -- DJ Bien-Aime
