David Haye has returned to training with Shane McGuigan just weeks after closing his own gym, reigniting the prospect of a comeback to the heavyweight division.
The former WBA world heavyweight champion has not fought since stopping Dereck Chisora in July 2012, having been forced to withdraw because of injury from fights with Manuel Charr and Tyson Fury, twice.
Haye, who came out of retirement to face Chisora three years ago, auctioned off the training ring from his gym for £65,700 in October as he closed his Hayemaker gym in Vauxhall, sparking talk that he planned to call time on his career once and for all.
If so, the 35-year-old appears to have had a change of heart.
"It's deeply instilled in me to be the best, no matter what," Haye, who sought out McGuigan after being impressed by his work with Carl Frampton, told Sky Sports. "Train the hardest, push the hardest, punch the hardest, get hit the least and win as many titles.
"When you're in a fight you push yourself to the limit. It's what I do. Looking at all the British and world fighters, the one fighter that stood out for me was Carl.
"Carl's speed, timing, accuracy and punch variety is something that I didn't have in my arsenal. The guy behind that is Shane, so he was the guy I sought out."
It remains to be seen whether Haye follows through with his comeback, but he seems determined to give it a go.
The 35-year-old added: "There's nothing in the everyday world that can give you the same buzz as walking to a ring with 20,000 screaming for a fight. I can understand why boxers keep coming back -- being one of them."
