Top center prospect Jarrett Allen picks Texas

Jarrett Allen, the last remaining five-star prospect in the 2016 class, is headed to Texas, he confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

Allen has been quiet throughout the recruitment process, but the Longhorns and Houston had waged a recruiting battle for him for several months. Kentucky and Kansas were also in the mix at various points, but the two in-state schools were the serious options.

Allen, a 6-foot-10 center from Saint Stephen's Episcopal School (Texas), was ranked No. 15 in the ESPN 100. He was also considered the No. 1 center in the class.

Shaka Smart now has two McDonald's All-Americans in his 2016 class, with Allen joining high-level guard Andrew Jones. ESPN 100 center James Banks and three-star scoring guard Jacob Young round out the group. Texas had the No. 18 class before Allen's commitment.
