A Pennsylvania high school boys' basketball coach who drew national headlines earlier this month after knocking a referee to the ground with a head-butt has reportedly been fired.
Jerry Devine, coach of suburban Philadelphia's Neshaminy High, was dismissed by the Neshaminy School Board on Tuesday night after a vote, according to ABC affiliate WPVI-TV.
Devine, who faces a harassment charge stemming from the incident, remains a special education teacher at Neshaminy, the WPVI-TV report said. He had been the boy's varsity coach for 10 years.
Devine had been arguing an offensive foul call with less than a minute left in a Jan. 5 game against Pennsbury High when he received a technical foul. He then made contact with the referee and was ejected.
The referee was able to remain in the game, but Devine's ejection meant an automatic one-game suspension in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.
Pennsbury went on to win the game 49-42.
The Neshaminy School District had placed Devine on administrative leave and begun a review of the incident.
Neshaminy is located about 25 miles from Philadelphia.
Information from ESPN's Jeff Goodman was used in this report.
