Jenson Button doubts points are possible in 2015 on basis of Spain

Jenson Button says McLaren will struggle to score a point this season on the basis of the problems he faced at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Button finished a lap down on the leaders in 16th place with just the Manors behind - incidentally the only other team not to score points this year. He struggled for rear grip throughout the race and said the first 30 laps were the scariest of his life.

"It was tough," he said. "It was getting a bit boring as well at some points, but the first odd 30 laps weren't boring. They were the scariest 30 laps of my life. I mean I don't know what happened we had understeer in the car but the rear just wasn't there. Anytime I touched the throttle, at any speed, it was gone. High speed/low speed - it wasn't normal.

"I don't know what it is, we have to look in the data more thoroughly. The switch changes we made during the race and new tyres by the end improved it a little bit in stints, but still, wow, it was scary to drive. It was obviously a set-up issue, so I don't think it quite as bad for Fernando [Alonso]."

McLaren has been struggling for performance all year, but Button was particularly downbeat after the Spanish Grand Prix.

"After today I don't think I expect points at all this year. Hopefully today was an off day and it didn't feel right. Fernando was in front of both Force India cars, in front of both Saubers so he was 12th but yeah, I don't know how his race was going so I can't really tell. For me it was a long way from a point-scoring position - I think a lap. But there are certain reasons for that."
