McLaren racing director Eric Boullier is hoping a policy of "honesty and transparency" will be enough to keep his team motivated during the its current struggle.
McLaren's start to its partnership with Honda has yielded just 17 points from 10 races, 12 of which came at a chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix three weeks ago. Boullier admits there are no guarantees that everyone at his team will remain happy, but promised he would not attempt to cover up the extent of McLaren's problems.
"This is a project that from the beginning has been explained very carefully and transparently," he said. "Everybody can see everybody is working hard, it's true that we have a pain these days because it's not delivering performance because it's not where we want to be and where we should be.
"I don't know how long it will be possible to keep everybody happy, but definitely we are as honest and transparent and hardworking as we can be."
Although reliability has been a major problem for McLaren this year, Boullier said the pursuit of performance is the team's main goal ahead of the second half of the season.
"Performance comes first. In terms of show stoppers, we have changed so many processes inside the company. We need to keep reviewing until we are running faultlessly all the time."
