Martin Odegaard close to €4m move to Real Madrid, report says

Real Madrid will pay Stromsgodset a fee of around four million euros for highly-rated youngster Martin Odegaard, according to AS.

Odegaard, 16, arrived in the Spanish capital on Tuesday to conclude his move, and was at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday to watch the Copa del Rey clash between Atletico Madrid and Real.

He trained with the club's reserves in Valdebebas on Thursday and got to meet several first-team players, while he is expected to attend Friday's training session with Castilla.

The asking price for Odegaard has not risen to an excessive level because he would be able to move on from Stromsgodset on a free transfer at the end of his contract in June. The Norwegian outfit decided it would be better for all parties if they cashed in on the player now.

Odegaard, who has been linked with a number of clubs from around Europe, arrived in Madrid together with his father, Hans Erik Odegaard, and his agent, Tore Pedersen.

Real have organised accommodation for both Odegaard and his father during their third visit to Spain. The player visited the training complex in Valdebebas back in November and July.

The Norwegian press claim that Odegaard will be listed with the first team and given the No. 16 shirt, and several Norwegian camera crews and journalists have already flown to Madrid to cover the news for those back home.

Once the transfer has been finalised, Odegaard will become Real's second Scandinavian signing of the season following Finnish forward Eero Markkanen, who joined in the summer for 1.6 million euros. Markkanen has scored two goals to date for Castilla.

Odegaard made history when he became the youngest player ever to appear in a European Championship qualifier at the age of 15 years and 300 days last year when representing Norway.
