Malaysia Super League (MSL) side Terengganu have parted ways with their head coach Abdul Rahman Ibrahim following a barren spell of six league defeats after their last win on April 11.
He is the fourth MSL coach to lose his job this season after the dismissals George Boateng (Kelantan), B. Sathianathan (ATM FA) and Bojan Hodak (Johor Darul Ta'zim).
"Abdul Rahman has applied for leave and we have accepted his request," said a Terengganu FA statement.
The club announced that Abdul Rahman's assistant, Ahmad Yusof, will be the interim head coach for Saturday's home game against Sarawak in Kuala Terengganu.
The match is vital to both the Turtles and the Crocs, who are struggling in eighth and ninth places, just outside the relegation zone.
Terengganu have 14 points from 13 matches after a mixed start to the season which saw them third in the standings at one point.
Making matters worse for 69-year-old Rahman, eventual champions LionsXII knocked out the Turtles in the Malaysia FA Cup semifinals in May on away goals after an aggregate scoreline of 4-4 over two legs. Angry fans at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium rioted after the second leg in unsavoury scenes that saw the club sanctioned by FAM.
And star Brazilian striker Paulo Rangel was banned for three months for his behavior during the game after Terengganu had a late goal rightfully disallowed.
Former Malaysia national boss Abdul Rahman signed up for Terengganu in 2014 from PKNS for his third coaching stint with his home state. His two previous year-long spells were in 1983 and 1998.
Rahman won the Malaysia FA Cup in 2001 with Selangor. However, he will be best remembered for coaching Perlis to the 2005 MSL title and 2006 Malaysia Cup.
