New York City FC midfielder Sebastian Velazquez has entered MLS' substance abuse program, the club announced on Tuesday.
It is unknown how long the 24-year-old Colombian will be unavailable to his club, as Valazquez will be barred from participating in any team activities until he is cleared by the program's doctors.
"New York City FC are working closely with the league, the players union, and Sebastian Velasquez on this matter and will continue to work in cooperation with all involved parties and follow all appropriate procedures. At this time the club has no further comment," NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a team statement.
Velazquez has made 12 appearances for the franchise this season, including five starts.
