RoboCup Challenge robot football tournament blighted by playacting

As if you didn't know, teams from the US and Australia met in the final of the RoboCup Challenge robot football tournament in Beijing on Monday.

Hailing from the University of Texas, "Austin Villa" took on a team from the University of New South Wales in the showpiece encounter that the former eventually won 7-3.

Sadly, it would appear that robotic footballers are just as prone to dabbling in underhanded gamesmanship as their human counterparts, with the final quickly descending into one huge dive-fest as both teams started throwing themselves around.

Good grief, it's like watching some of the more unsavoury El Clasico matches from the past decade. While the technology and dedication involved is certainly impressive, nobody wants to see players resorting to play-acting to gain an underhanded advantage -- whether they be full of circuitry or otherwise.
