Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli not among Pescara targets - Sebastiani

Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani has ruled out a bid for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, saying he does not want "figurines just to make somebody happy."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told Balotelli, 25, that he is surplus to requirements at Anfield and he has been linked with an array of clubs around the world.

Pescara, who were promoted to Serie A last season, are one of the sides credited with an interest in the former Inter and AC Milan striker, along with fellow top-flight newcomers Crotone.

However, Sebastiani told Mediaset television that neither party would be interested in a deal.

"I know that his is the name that would get the most attention," he said. "[But] Mario is a great player and I think that the last thing he would do would be to come and play at Pescara or Crotone.

"We don't need to buy figurines just to make somebody happy. We're working behind the scenes on finding players with the right profile for Pescara. We're running our own transfer market and if we want to do anything, we need to be patient."

Sebastiani said they would not be pursuing their interest in Diego Simeone's son, Giovanni, who plays for River Plate as a striker.

"We had presented an offer based on what his agent had proposed to us, then River Plate made a different request a month later and so we didn't take it any further," he said.

Former Inter and Roma midfielder David Pizarro, 36, had also been mentioned as a potential target but talks with the former Chile international did not reach a successful conclusion.

"We had spoken with Pizarro, but he would have taken one of our non-EU player positions," Sebastiani said. "He's a great player, for his age."
