Real Betis' Garreta thankful for support after head injury

Real Betis defender Félix Martí Garreta has thanked fans for their support after sustaining a serious head injury following a fall in his home that left him in intensive care.

Garreta, who has been in a hospital in Spain since May 10, left the intensive care unit last Friday to move to a ward, according to a statement from the club he played for on loan this season, SD Amorebieta.

Garreta is progressing well but admitted he has a long journey ahead to return to play.

"I am happy to inform you that I am in good condition," the former Spain under-19 player wrote. "Although now a long recovery process begins. As you can imagine I am looking forward to see you again and share unforgettable moments in football. Thanks for everything."

Garreta was on a season-long loan at Spanish second-division club Amorebieta from Betis.

He has scored four goals in 31 league appearances for Amorebieta and played seven times for Spain's U19 side.
