Diego Alves saves two more penalties but Valencia lose to Atletico Madrid

Valencia keeper goalkeeper Diego Alves broke the all-time record for La Liga penalty saves last week -- and now he has stopped another two.

Alves denied Atletico Madrid duo Antoine Griezmann and Gabi but still finished on the losing side as his team were beaten 2-0 at home, with Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro the players on target.

Brazil international Alves made his 17th La Liga penalty save to break the record set by Andoni Zubizarreta when he denied Leganes player Alexander Szymanowski last weekend.

He has saved more than half the penalties he has faced in his career, defying both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi from the spot.

His 18th save came in the 44th minute when he dived to his left to keep out Griezmann, who has now failed to score his last three penalties for Atleti.

And when Diego Simeone's side were awarded another penalty in the 73rd minute, Gabi stepped up -- and Alves dived the other way to repeat the trick.
