LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex hosted the Orlando Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday afternoon. The event was dominated by Sunshine State prospects, as more than 240 players attended and a whopping 10 athletes earned invites to participate in The Opening following strong camp efforts. Nearly 100 prospects entered the camp holding offers and there were several stellar performances, but only 24 could be named to Orlando All-Nike Camp team.
Note: Selections are based upon feedback from NFTC position coaches as well as past and projected on-field performance. Athletes are in the Class of 2013 unless otherwise noted.
TOP PERFORMER
RB Ryan Green, 5-10, 187, St. Petersburg Catholic (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
The nation's No.48 overall prospect in the ESPN 150 and No. 4 running back was not even registered pre-camp but opted to show up the morning of and put on quite a show. Well-known for his explosive speed, Green showed off an equally impressive physical nature; dominating in pass-blocking drills. Green even turned heads at wide receiver during half-field 7-on-7 drills, and walked away with an invite to The Opening as well as RB MVP honors.
TOP UNDERCLASSMAN
TE Milan Richard ('14), 6-2.5, 227, Calvary Baptist Day (Savannah, Ga.)
There were several outstanding underclassmen in attendance Sunday, but the natural pass-catching ability of Richard and in particular his dominance of any and all linebackers during one-on-one drills was impossible to ignore. He has long arms and huge mitts and the bloodlines to match, as Herschel Walker's nephew.
OFFENSE
QB: Asiantii Woulard, 6-3, 204, Winter Park (Fla.)
Breakdown: Woulard impressed all day long with his laundry list of physical tools and great appetite for coaching. The signal-caller has terrific upside only having played the position one season. USF, Duke, Syracuse and FIU have offered
RB: Greg Bryant, 5-10.5, 197, American Heritage (Delray Beach, Fla.)
Breakdown: After missing the Miami NFTC a week earlier, this Oklahoma commit made the longer trip north to Orlando seeking an invite to The Opening and accomplished his goal with a strong day overall. Well-built with a good burst, Bryant is probably better in pads than in shorts but showed better than expected receiving ability.
RB: Wesley Bullock, 5-6.5, 153, Plant (Tampa, Fla.)
Breakdown: Doesn't have ideal size but is a football player and showed well in each and every drill. Was an 8A third team All-State pick last year and has Ball State and Western Kentucky offers.
WR: Johnell Barnes, 5-10.5, 150, Dunbar (Fort Myers, Fla.)
Breakdown: Barnes earned MVP honors amongst a star-studded group of WRs by consistently getting open and showing excellent acceleration and route-running ability. As a junior he caught 35 passes for 641 yards and 10 scores last fall.
WR: Ahmad Fulwood, 6-4, 189, Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Breakdown: Fulwood has all the coveted tools and the future Gator put them on display Sunday to earn a trip to The Opening. As a junior he caught 46 passes for 1,141 yards and 22 scores last fall.
WR: Levonte Whitfield, 5-8.5, 168, Jones (Orlando, Fla.)
Breakdown: This track star put his famous speed on display, but even more importantly showed terrific change-of-direction ability. Whitfield proved to be one of the most explosive athletes at a loaded event.
TE/WR: Travis Johnson, 6-3, 231, Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.)
Breakdown: Johnson split out wide and also took some tight end reps at camp, but no matter where he lined up he displayed a knack for getting open. With his big frame tight end is his likely future role and he could be a very good one once he gets in a college weight program.
OL: Ira Denson, 6-3, 316, Madison County (Madison, Fla.)
Breakdown: Denson had a breakthrough outing Sunday, earning OL MVP and a spot in The Opening with an intense and fierce exhibition of blocking in one-on-one drills. FIU, Western Kentucky and South Alabama are his first three offers.
OL: Mason Cole ('14), 6-4.5, 266, East Lake (Tarpon Springs, Fla.)
Breakdown: Cole displayed good knee bend and overall fundamentals. The rising junior is still a bit raw, but has the ability and potential to develop into a very good collegiate lineman and already has FSU and USF offers.
OL: Laremy Tunsil, 6-5.5, 295, Columbia (Lake City, Fla.)
Breakdown: Tunsil, one of just three non-seniors to earn his way to The Opening last summer, was rewarded with a return visit after a great showing Sunday. Has added 30 pounds of muscle since last spring and dominated most foes with a combination of nimble feet and great hands.
DEFENSE
DL: Caleb Brantley, 6-3, 302, Crescent City (Fla.)
Breakdown: Brantley has a tremendous build and is gifted athletically. Denson got the best of him a few times, but once he develops more pass-rush moves the Florida commit will be tough to handle.
DL: Jordan Sherit, 6-3, 245, Hillsborough (Tampa, Fla.)
Breakdown: Sherit was right in the mix for MVP honors before a shoulder strain forced him out during one-on-one drills. He has an impressive frame and looked very explosive during the SPARQ stations.
DL: Demarcus Walker, 6-3, 255, Sandalwood (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Breakdown: Walker, ranked No. 24 overall in the ESPN 150, dominated in drills and was the most physically advanced prospect on the defensive front. A quick first step and agility allowed him to explode past opposing OLs while taking reps at both DT and DE.
DL: Devin Washington, 6-2.5, 222, Jones (Orlando, Fla.)
Breakdown: Speedy edge rusher showed great explosiveness off the end and took home DL MVP after dominating in one-on-ones. Had 56 tackles and seven sacks last fall and already holds offers from Clemson, Ole Miss, South Carolina among others.
LB: Rayfield Dixon, 6-2.5, 192, Seminole Ridge (Loxahatchee, Fla.)
Breakdown: Athletic weakside linebacker with excellent lateral speed and range. Dixon is an explosive, quick-twitch player that does a nice job in space. Last season, he tallied 75 tackles, 17 for loss, and five sacks while earning Sun-Sentinel All-Palm Beach honors.
LB: Quinton Powell, 6-2, 190, Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.)
Breakdown: Powell is still learning the linebacker position after playing mostly defensive end a year ago, but the Florida commit is gifted enough athletically to more than hold his own in a setting like the NFTC. Powell also earned an invite to The Opening.
LB: Keith Kelsey, 6-1, 213, Gainesville (Fla.)
Breakdown: Was a close second to Powell in the LB MVP race. Kelsey has a great frame, good speed and was very coachable. USF, UCF, Louisville and Iowa State have offered.
DB: Shaquill Griffin, 6-0, 184, Lakewood (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
Breakdown: Griffin continues to improve at every event he attends, showing great work ethic and playmaking ability in coverage. UCF, USF and others have offered.
DB: Vernon Hargreaves, 5-10.5, 185, Wharton (Tampa, Fla.)
Breakdown: The nation's top corner and No. 4 player overall in the ESPN 150 lived up to his advance billing Sunday. Technically sound and athletically gifted, the only knock on Hargreaves is that he doesn't talk much, especially for a corner. He also received an invite to The Opening.
DB: Marcell Harris, 6-1, 209, Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.)
Breakdown: Harris jumped on the radar at the FSU Nike Camp last spring and earned a spot at The Opening this summer with a dominating showing Sunday. No one took more reps and despite his great size Harris ran with the quickest receivers.
DB: Leon McQuay, 6-1.5, 182, Armwood (Seffner, Fla.)
Breakdown: It's rare that a safety takes home DB MVP honors at an NFTC as most of the drills slant towards cornerbacks, but McQuay was just that good on Sunday. He had several breakups from his safety spot in half-skelly and showed great range on his way to earning a spot at The Opening.
DB: Matt Milano, 6-0.5, 192, Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.)
Breakdown: Milano followed up his big SPARQ Combine in February (104.52 SPARQ rating) with a solid day Sunday. He explodes when the ball is in the air from his safety position and showed impressive footwork and jumping ability. Air Force has offered.
