A Bellator MMA lightweight championship rematch between titleholder Brent Primus and Michael Chandler is being targeted for a Dec. 14 event, according to multiple sources.
Bellator has not announced an event on that date or any potential venue. The Dec. 14 date is just one day before another Bellator card at Neil S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
A rematch between these two has felt inevitable since their first meeting in June 2017. Primus (8-0) took the 155-pound title from Chandler in a first-round TKO victory inside Madison Square Garden. The win came under some controversy, however, as Chandler suffered a freak nerve injury in his lower left leg that ultimately resulted in a doctor's stoppage.
Bellator initially scheduled the rematch in April, but Primus was forced to withdraw due to injury. The Oregonian has not fought since he won the title.
Chandler (18-4) went on to fight Brandon Girtz in April, in what was the final bout of his previous contract. The 32-year-old contemplated entering free agency this summer, but opted to re-sign with Bellator in August.
