Bills QB Josh Allen passes concussion check, cleared to return

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen has been cleared to return after being evaluated for a head injury during Sunday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Allen was hit by a Bengals defender and his helmet hit the turf in the end zone after he threw a pass away late in the second quarter. Allen immediately reached for his helmet after his head hit the ground. He remained in the game for one play, a run by Marcus Murphy, before the game was stopped.

Members of the Bills' medical staff and an apparent NFL concussion spotter walked Allen to the locker room in the closing seconds of the first half. He was replaced by Nathan Peterman for the final three plays of the half.

Allen, the No. 7 overall pick in the draft, was making his first start of the preseason. He completed 6 of 12 passes for 34 yards and was sacked five times.

In eight first-half possessions, Allen and the Bills' first-team offense gained four first downs, scored no points and ended the half with minus-5 net passing yards.
