Falcons RB Devonta Freeman knocked out of game with ankle injury

NEW ORLEANS -- Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman was ruled out for Sunday's game against New Orleans Saints with an ankle injury.

Freeman carried the ball 10 times for 38 yards in the first half and caught three passes for 10 yards.

With Freeman out and backup Ito Smith placed on injured reserve, the Falcons used Brian Hill and Kenjon Barner as their primary running backs. Rookie Qadree Ollison was active as well.

Freeman played in just two games last season before undergoing season-ending core-muscle surgery.
