Raiders waive reserve QB DeShone Kizer

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Las Vegas Raiders waived DeShone Kizer on Tuesday, leaving the team with three quarterbacks -- starter Derek Carr and backups Nathan Peterman and Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 pick of the 2015 NFL draft who signed a free-agent deal with the Raiders this offseason.

Kizer, 24, was claimed by the Raiders last year after he was waived by the Green Bay Packers. He was elevated from third-stringer to Carr's backup for three games late last season, but he didn't play and was relegated back to No. 3 on the depth chart for the season finale.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2017 draft by the Cleveland Browns and started 15 games during the team's winless season that year. He led the NFL with 22 interceptions that season.

The Browns traded him to Packers in March of 2018 and he appeared in three games, throwing two interceptions.

"I have a little bit of experience playing within my rookie year," Kizer said in December. "Got a year to learn from some great football minds last year [in Green Bay] and I've been learning from a great football mind this year [in coach Jon Gruden] so I've been trying to stay ready as much as possible, trying to perform as much as possible in practice."

In 18 career games he has completed 53.1% of his passes for 3,081 yards with 11 touchdown passes and 24 interceptions.

The Raiders on Tuesday also waived tight end Paul Butler, linebacker Te'von Coney, defensive end Kendall Donnerson, offensive lineman Kyle Kalis and linebacker Quentin Poling and signed four undrafted rookies in tight end Nick Bowers (Penn State), cornerback Madre Harper (Southern Illinois), longsnapper Liam McCullough (Ohio State) and linebacker Javin White (UNLV).
