Shark's centre Clyde Rathbone will skipper the Springbok U21 squad into the Under 21 World Cup beginning in Johannesburg on Friday.
Commenting on his choice as skipper coach Jake White commented, "Clyde's got exceptional leadership qualities and he is an immensely popular guy. He played Super 12 rugby and he is always in front when we are training."
Three Springbok sevens players join the squad in the form of Jorrie Muller who plays fullback, the speedy Ashwin Willemse on the right wing and Jean de Villiers who partners Rathbone in the midfield.
Harry Viljoen's surprise inclusion in the 2001 Springbok squad, Francois Swart, wears the number ten jersey.
The team is: Jorrie Muller; Ashwin Willemse, Clyde Rathbone(c), Jean de Villiers, Dewey Swartbooi; Francois Swart, Enrico January; Jacques Cronjé, Pedri Wanneberg, Roland Bernard, Stefan van Rooyen, Gordon Gilfillan, Pat Barnard, Gary Botha and Gurthro Steenkamp.
Reserves: Rayno Gerber, Dean Hopp, Quinten Geldenhuys, Jean Smith, JP Nel, Tsepo Kokoali.
