Bristol took a step nearer promotion to the Zurich Premiership by crushing nearest rivals Exeter 68-15 in a sparkling display which delighted a near-capacity Memorial Stadium crowd of 10,349.
Such a one-sided contest was completely unexpected, since Exeter had comfortably beaten Bristol on their own ground in February.
But on the day the visitors had no answer to Bristol's fluent handling, incisive lines of running, and interplay between backs and forwards.
Exeter began strongly but the hosts took the lead when Manuel Contepomi released Saul Nelson 30 metres out and the hooker crossed by the flag - with Jason Strange converting.
Tony Yapp kicked a penalty for Exeter, Strange responding for Bristol, before Sean Marsden scored a brilliant try down the right.
Two further penalties from Strange, and a clever individual try from Sam Cox made the interval score 30-3 with Bristol in the driving seat.
Bristol, playing delightful rugby, scored four tries in 20 minutes after the re-start through Luke Nabaro, Ed Pearce, Contepomi and Bernardo Stortoni to establish a 56-3.
Exeter's Ed Lewsey crossed and after Bristol responded with two more tries from Contepomi, Lewsey again jinked his way through to touch down - in the 10th minute of added time.
