England have called up Luther Burrell as Manu Tuilagi's replacement for their tour of Australia.

Tuilagi's hamstring injury in Leicester's Aviva Premiership semifinal left a vacant spot in the 32-man squad for the three-Test series and Eddie Jones waited until after England's 27-13 win over Wales to name his replacement.

It was a straight shootout between Bath's Exeter-bound Ollie Devoto and Northampton's Burrell and the latter's try-scoring performance against Wales was enough to earn him a spot on the plane to Australia.

"It's a great opportunity for Luther who I thought played really well yesterday," said England head coach Jones. "He carried the ball well, defended with aggression and scored an excellent try.

"We want players who are desperate to play for their country and are willing to make the sacrifices needed to succeed at the highest level. Luther's worked hard at his game since January and we've seen a significant improvement to his fitness and conditioning as a result. He thoroughly deserves his place on the tour.

"It was a tough selection call. Ollie Devoto has really impressed during his recent time in the England camp. We wish him a successful tour to South Africa with the Saxons."

Burrell has 14 caps for England and will vie with the likes of Owen Farrell and Ben Te'o for the inside centre spot. Prior to Sunday's win over Wales, his last cap for England came in the run up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup but he has done enough to force his way back into the Test reckoning ahead of their trip Down Under.
