Wasps' director of rugby Dai Young is unsure whether Danny Cipriani will return this weekend as the fly-half undergoes return-to-play concussion protocols after he was knocked out against Sale last Friday.

Cipriani, who was taken to hospital after Faf de Klerk ran into him in the 79th minute of Sale's victory over Wasps, returned to the club on Monday where he will undergo the protocols.

"Obviously he was out for a fair time," Young told the Coventry Telegraph. "It was a nasty knock as everyone one has seen. He's been to hospital as precaution and had CT scans and everything was clear.

"He has to go through the relevant protocols, to make sure there are no ill effects. The protocols are there to be followed so I can't tell you if he is going to be alright this week or next week. He could be alright this week if he goes through all the protocols. It could be this week [or] it could take three weeks.

"The protocols are there and we will adhere to them 100 percent," added Young.

If Cipriani has no setbacks in various stages of the protocols, he could return to face Worcester on Saturday with Wasps battling it out for a playoff position.

With three games to go they sit fourth in the table, two points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle and a further point ahead of Sale in sixth, in the race for the playoffs.
