Get to know Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson, who will start Sunday:

He was on a family vacation two weeks ago: When the Bills called Anderson after their Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Anderson was on a vacation with his family, including his children -- ages 4, 2 and 1. He told the team to give him a few days to mull over his decision before he signed Oct. 9, after the Bills' Week 5 win over the Titans. Anderson, 35, said he had been working with a personal trainer in Arizona, although he had not been with a team since the end of last season with the Carolina Panthers.

He once went 2-for-17 against the Bills ... and won: When Anderson played for the Cleveland Browns in 2009, he started an Oct. 11 game at Buffalo that the Browns won 6-3. Anderson completed 2 of 17 passes for 23 yards and one interception. According to Pro Football Reference, his 11.8-percent completion rate was the lowest by a player with at least 17 pass attempts in a win since at least 1950. "I believe it's still an NFL record," Anderson said with a smile last week. "[My receivers] had like four or five drops, so you got to give me [some credit]. It was not pretty."

He once went 9-for-24 against the Bills ... and won: Two years before his NFL "record" performance against the Bills, Anderson started for the Browns and beat the Bills 8-0 during a lake-effect snow storm in Cleveland on Dec. 16. He completed 9 of 24 passes in the game for 137 yards and an interception.

He is a scratch golfer: Anderson might be the NFL's best golfer. He told ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton last year that his handicap is zero. He once shot a 65 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has a swing speed of 125 mph, higher than the PGA Tour average. Anderson wants to win the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship after he retires, which would qualify him for the Masters. Between Anderson and defensive tackle Kyle Williams, who is also a scratch golfer, the Bills might have the best twosome in the NFL.

He was intercepted on his only pass of his most recent start: Anderson has not started an NFL game since Dec. 4, 2016, when he was on the field for the Panthers' first possession after Cam Newton was benched for a dress-code violation. Anderson's only pass was deflected off Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert and intercepted.

He made the Pro Bowl in 2007: Anderson's third season in the NFL was his first as a full-time starter. In 15 starts, he completed 56 percent of his passes for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions and helped the Browns to a 10-6 record, which remains Cleveland's most recent winning season. Anderson was named as an alternate to the Pro Bowl and replaced Tom Brady in Hawaii.
