Expectations for the 2016 Cleveland Browns may be at an all-time low, with good reason. The Browns have uncertainty at quarterback, few playmakers and holes all over the roster. The draft is ahead, yes, but not even a good draft can overcome the problems that face a team undergoing a 2016 "reboot."
Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 11, at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m.
Philadelphia does not seem like a threatening team. But it has enough talent to beat a Browns team without much talent in the season opener in Philadelphia. Record: 0-1.
Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 18, vs. Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m.
The Ravens had a down year last season. It won't be repeated. The Browns simply find ways to lose to Baltimore. Remember the "kick six"? Record: 0-2.
Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 25, at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.
Miami has wallowed in mediocrity recently, finishing no worse than 6-10 and no better than 8-8 the past seven seasons. That's not good, but 8-8 would be celebrated in Cleveland. Miami wins. Record: 0-3.
Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 2, at Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.
This game will mean a lot to Robert Griffin III, who faces his former team. It will mean more to Washington, which with Jay Gruden is building something good. Three of four on the road to start a season is a tough chore. Record: 0-4.
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 9, vs. New England Patriots, 1 p.m.
The Browns finally get a home game and who awaits? The team that was in the AFC Championship game last season and won the Super Bowl the year before. As Chad Johnson used to say, "Child, please."Record: 0-5.
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 16, at Tennessee Titans, 1 p.m.
Tennessee has lost two in a row to the Browns. No team, not even the Titans, can lose three in a row to the Browns. Record: 0-6.
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m.
Hue Jackson's return to Cincinnati comes at the end of a tough stretch. Even if it didn't, the Bengals have too much talent. Cincinnati will prevail at home. Record: 0-7.
Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 30, vs. New York Jets, 1 p.m.
At this writing the Jets' quarterback situation is uncertain. By the time the teams play it will be settled. The Jets have more playmakers and a better defense. Record: 0-8.
Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 6, vs. Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m.
As long as Tony Romo is healthy, Dallas is at a different level and it shouldn't even be close. Record: 0-9.
Week 10: Thursday, Nov. 10, at Baltimore Ravens, 8:25 p.m.
The Browns follow a difficult matchup against Dallas by going on the road for a game four days later in Baltimore. Record: 0-10.
Week 11: Sunday Nov. 20, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.
The Steelers treat the Browns like the big kid who puts his hand on the little kid's forehead. The little kid swings mightily, but can't hit the big kid. As long as the Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, they will be the big kid. Record: 0-11.
Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 27, vs. New York Giants, 1 p.m.
No team wants to be the team that loses to the Browns. The Giants were an inconsistent group in 2015, and have won six, six and seven games the past three seasons. Much as the Giants will hate it, they will be the team the Browns beat at home. Record: 1-11.
Week 13: Bye week.
Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 11, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m.
The Browns' only edge here is Jackson's knowledge of the Bengals. But with Cincinnati more than likely heading into a playoff run, the Bengals will have much at stake. That and the talent difference add up to a Bengals win. Record: 1-12.
Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 18, at Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m.
This game seems winnable for the Browns, on the road against a team with quarterback concerns. Rex Ryan's defense, though, will prove to be too much. Record: 1-13.
Week 16: Saturday, Dec. 24, vs. San Diego Chargers, 1 p.m.
It's tempting to think the Browns will complete what they didn't do a year ago and beat the Chargers. But it's also not realistic. Record: 1-14.
Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 1, at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.
At some point the NFL will show mercy and not schedule the season finale against Pittsburgh. If Roethlisberger is healthy, the Browns cannot compete. Pittsburgh wins easily at home. Record: 1-15.
