Giants' Sterling Shepard doesn't practice as Thanksgiving game looms

Do the Giants deserve credit for win over Chiefs? (1:31)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It sure doesn't look as if New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard will play Thursday night against the Washington Redskins.

Shepard did not participate in the Giants' biggest practice this week Tuesday with an illness. He's been dealing with migraines and missed Sunday's win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Shepard was deemed a limited participant in practice on Monday during this short week. He wasn't on the field at all on Tuesday, and now has two days to get cleared for this week's game.

The Giants (2-8) play on Thanksgiving night against the Washington Redskins.

“Sterling is not feeling well,” coach Ben McAdoo said. “They kept him in the training room and they’re taking a look at him. They’re looking at all the possibilities.”

Shepard has underwent numerous tests and even tried to do some running. The migraines came back after he tried to do some work earlier this week. He has not been placed in the concussion protocol.

The Giants plan to see where Shepard stands Wednesday before making any final decisions.

Shepard and guard D.J. Fluker were the only Giants players not on the practice field at all Tuesday. Fluker (toe) was in the locker room in a boot and will miss this week's game, and possibly more time. He said he was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s 12-9 overtime win over the Chiefs but still managed to finish the game.

Offensive lineman Justin Pugh (back) and linebackers B.J. Goodson (ankle) and Calvin Munson (quad) were among the players to work on the side while the remainder of the team practiced. Pugh will miss his second straight game. He is aiming to return the following week when the Giants play in Oakland.

Defensive tackle Damon Harrison (ankle), defensive end Olivier Vernon (shoulder) and running back Orleans Darkwa (hamstring) were among the players who were limited during Tuesday’s practice. Harrison and Vernon would not have done anything had the Giants taken the field on Monday.

The Giants would once again be severely lacking in weapons without Shepard. They're already without Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall for the season.

Roger Lewis, Tavarres King and Travis Rudolph took most of the snaps at wide receiver last week against the Chiefs. The speedy Kalif Raymond was also sprinkled into the action.

King led the Giants with five targets. Lewis led the Giants with 55 yards, which included a 34-yard reception from his backside in overtime.

Shepard leads the Giants with 457 receiving yards this season. He's second on the team behind rookie tight end Evan Engram with 38 receptions despite playing in only seven games.
