College football recruiting grades after national signing day

The third year of college football's early signing period has come and gone. Defending national champion Clemson holds down the No. 1 spot in the class rankings with Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and LSU rounding out the top five.

Big winners in the early period include Auburn, which signed a terrific defensive class with a quartet of signing-day victories over SEC foes; Utah coming on the heels of the Pac-12 championship game appearance; and Nebraska, which closed with a flourish in the final week.

While there is almost seven weeks until national signing day in February and some classes are incomplete, here's how the classes grade out.
