ATHENS, Ga. -- The annual G-Day game saw 45,000 rabid fans in attendance at Sanford Stadium and also hosted a number of top prospects from around the Southeast.
An intersquad scrimmage means that Georgia will win regardless -- as Mark Richt likes to joke every year, but Bulldogs also won a quick recruiting victory before the team finished getting taped up. Sophomore wide receiver Chris Owens (Griffin, Ga./Griffin) was in attendance and decided that he wanted to be a Bulldog.
" … [My recruiter and I] went upstairs into the conference room and waited for Mark [Richt] to get there. When I got up there, the butterflies came," Owens said. "My hands started sweating. I was nervous the whole time. It just didn't seem real.
"[Richt said he] liked how I set and how I moved for my height, and he told me I had good character and that he wanted me to play at UGA. That has been my dream school since the third grade, and I couldn't turn down the offer, so I went ahead and verbally committed."
