ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- At this point a year ago, after the 2011 spring game, the 2012 Michigan recruiting class had four members -- Ben Braden, Caleb Stacey, Royce Jenkins-Stone and Kaleb Ringer. This year, the Wolverines' 2013 class has 17 commits, the most of any FBS school in the country.
"It says more about the coaching staff than anything else," running back commit Wyatt Shallman said. "You can't pull in great commitments without a staff that knows what it's doing. I think Michigan's coaching staff is unique in that they know how to interact with people, yet they know how to coach."
Michigan coach Brady Hoke started off the 2013 class on a strong note, grabbing quarterback Shane Morris (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) during May of his sophomore year. It was more than a year and a half before he would sign his letter of intent, but it struck a note within the recruiting community that the Wolverines would be going after big talent early.
