Qualifying problem more 'bad timing' for Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen believes he could have put in a strong performance during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix had he not suffered a loss of oil pressure during Q2.

Raikkonen qualified 14th on the grid after stopping on track coming out of Stavelot ahead of his flying lap in Q2. Team-mate Sebastian Vettel could only manage ninth fastest, but Raikkonen, who has been quick all weekend and has more wins at Spa-Francorchamps than any other driver on the grid, believes he could have qualified near the front.

"The Mercedes-engined cars are pretty strong here but our car was handling pretty nicely all weekend so it was bad timing for the issue, but it is what it is," he said. "My position could have been a bit better but we'll keep fighting and try to do the best we can and see where we end up."

Raikkonen is hoping the Ferrari will be better in race specification than it was in qualifying.

"Obviously, we know we have to improve in all areas. My starting position will make my race very tricky but I hope that the race condition will turn in our favour. Hopefully, tomorrow, we can do our best and see where we end up, but with where we're going to start, we'll have to give it our maximum to get a good result."
