          Manchester United announce Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin deals

          TOP STORY: United seal Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin deals

          Manchester United have confirmed the arrivals of midfield stars Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin at Old Trafford.

          Germany international Schweinsteiger arrives from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and has signed a three-year deal.

          Schneiderlin, a France international, moves from Southampton for a fee in the region of £25 million and has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option to add another year.

          Schweinsteiger made more than 500 appearances for Bayern, with his debut coming 13 years ago, and said United were the only club he would have left Munich for.

          "I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world, and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal [his former manager at Bayern] again," he said.

          United's summer spending has now hit the £80 million mark following the earlier arrivals of Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian.

          20.27 BST: Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has -- with tongue planted firmly in cheek, we presume -- suggested the Old Trafford side bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club where he made his name.

          19.58 BST: Does the imminent departure of Robin van Persie for Fenerbahce leave a hole for Manchester United?

          Gab Marcotti says that, as long as Wayne Rooney plays as a forward, it is a loss that can be absorbed by the Old Trafford club.

          19.48 BST: DONE DEAL Filed to the "one to watch" folder, Swansea have signed 19-year-old striker Ollie McBurnie from Bradford for an undisclosed fee.

          McBurnie, who made only four senior starts for Bradford, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and will join the Swans' development squad.

          19.31 BST: DONE DEAL We saw him signing on the dotted line earlier and now it's official: Stephan El Shaarawy is a Monaco player. The 22-year-old joins the Ligue 1 club from AC Milan.

          Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Monaco will pay Milan a €16 million fee and that the forward will sign a five-year deal worth €3m per season

          18.42 BST: United States international goalkeeper Brad Guzan looks set to be restored to the Aston Villa goal, according to The Mirror.

          The 30-year-old, who is currently on Gold Cup duty with his national team, lost his place to Shay Given at the end of last season and missed the FA Cup final, but looks set to win his spot back at the start of the new campaign.

          Given has since departed for Stoke and Villa manager Tim Sherwood is not believed to be actively seeking a new No. 1.

          18.36 BST: News from Tottenham that Hugo Lloris has suffered a broken wrist. It's not transfer-related specifically but it might get the conspiracy theorists speculating.

          For example, Lloris had been linked to Manchester United as a possible replacement from David De Gea.

          18.33 BST: Looks like it won't be too long until Stephan El Shaarawy's move to Monaco gets the "DONE DEAL" treatment.

          On the one hand, the 27-year-old signed a contract last month that last until 2019 and included a 150 million buyout clause.

          17.30 BST: Middlesbrough enjoyed plenty of success with their loan move for Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford last season -- and they have returned to Stamford Bridge to wrap up a season-long loan for Czech defender Tomas Kalas, who spent a previous four-month spell with them, the Gazette reports. Kalas has joined the Boro summer training camp in Spain.

          17.15 BST: Carl Jenkinson was a big hit on loan at West Ham last season -- and he will be returning there next season after signing a new five-year deal at parent club Arsenal, says the Daily Mirror. The England under-21 defender, brought to Upton Park by former Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, is also wanted by his successor, Slaven Bilic.

          16.45 BST: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United's recent burst of transfer activity is a result of their disappointment at finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.

          Defender Matteo Darmian and midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger have linked up with the United squad after completing their transfers, and Wenger expects their additions to give United a fresh edge next season. "We knew they wouldn't be happy with finishing outside the top three and they would respond," he told reporters.

          16.30 BST: New Rangers manager Mark Warburton has his eye on a couple of additions and could raid Wigan, relegated to League One last season, for James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn, Sky has reported.

          16.10 BST: Here's one that'll spark a bit of interest from a club or two: Barcelona forward Pedro has revealed that his buyout clause has been reduced amid offers to sign him.

          Pedro, 27, has been linked with a move to Chelsea after failing to secure a place in the Barcelona first team after the arrival of Luis Suarez last summer. And the Spain international, who won the World Cup and European Championship with his country, admitted that he was in "a difficult situation" at the Camp Nou, while also revealing that his reported €150 million buyout clause had been reduced to €30 million.

          16.00 BST: Montpellier claim Marseille have made a bid for Bryan Dabo -- but OM insist they are not targeting the midfielder.

          Marseille missed out on Idrissa Gueye, who opted to join Aston Villa, and look likely to lose the race for Caen's N'Golo Kante to Leicester. Reports suggest OM have now turned their attention to 23-year-old Dabo, but they have denied making an offer for the Montpellier youth academy product.

          15.30 BST: Another London-based player staying put is Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann, who has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Selhurst Park. Former Blackburn man Dann told the official Palace website that he was "over the moon" to have agreed the new terms.

          15.15 BST -- DONE DEAL: And talking of Arsenal, former Gunner Andrei Arshavin has joined Kuban Krasnodar on a one-year deal, making the move from Zenit St Petersburg.

          15.00 BST: Arsene Wenger has said midfielder Mesut Ozil will not be leaving Arsenal.

          Italian newspaper Tuttosport linked Ozil with a potential move to Juventus, but Wenger was quick to stress that the Germany international would not be going anywhere. Speaking on Arsenal's preseason tour to Singapore, he said: "Ozil is our player, he will remain our player and he wants to remain our player.

          14.34 BST: DONE DEAL - Carlos Tevez joins Boca for €6.5 million.

          14.23 BST: Manchester City have secured the future of highly-rated young defender Jason Denayer on a five-year deal.

          13.50 BST: So France international Schneiderlin has wrapped up his long-mooted move from Southampton to United, signing a four-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

          He told United's official website he was "delighted to be a Manchester United player" and added: "Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make.

          "The chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss. I know what Manchester United means to fans all over the world and I'm looking forward to experiencing that."

          As for LVG, he's pretty pleased too, saying: "Morgan is a very talented player with great energy and ability. His skills will complement the players that we already have."

          13.45 BST: More from LVG who, of course, knows Schweinsteiger well having worked with him at Bayern: "His record speaks for itself -- he has won every honour at club level and was a major part of the Germany World Cup-winning team last summer.

          "Bastian is the ultimate professional, and there is no doubting his talent and his ability to control games. He brings a wealth of experience and is an excellent addition to our squad."

          13.35 BST: This is what the man himself had to say to United's official website after swapping Munich for Manchester:

          "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich. It has been an incredible journey and I didn't take the decision to leave lightly. Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for.

          13.30 BST -- DONE DEAL: Bastian Schweinsteiger is officially a Manchester United player:

          13.25 BST: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said goalkeeper Iker Casillas decided the time was right to leave after two difficult seasons. Casillas, who had two years left on his contract, confirmed a switch to Portuguese giants Porto and said his farewells at a weekend news conference.

          The 34-year-old goalkeeper's move brought down the curtain on a 25-year stint at Madrid, and he appeared alongside Perez to speak to reporters at the Bernabeu on Monday.

          13.00 BST: Last season it was Crystal Palace, and this season Amsterdam club Ajax will be the latest loan destination for Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

          12.40 BST: Italy Under-20 left-back Filippo Costa is set to move to Premier League newcomers Bournemouth from Chievo on a season-long loan deal.

          12.29 BST: Sunderland are closing in on a deal for Netherlands forward Jeremain Lens with the player set to undergo a medical on Monday, sources have told ESPN FC. Last month, ESPN FC revealed that Sunderland had targeted the Dynamo Kiev player as manager Dick Advocaat looked to bolster his attacking options.

          The Black Cats saw an initial offer for Lens rejected but returned with an improved bid of £9 million last week and the deal appears to have been agreed.

          12.07 BST: Begovic has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with his new club, with sources telling ESPN FC that the deal has been done for £8 million:

          12.05 BST: So Asmir Begovic is now a Chelsea player, and he has thanked Stoke and their fans for his time with the Potters. "I have loved my time at Stoke, but feel I had the opportunity to continue to develop and challenge myself as a player," he wrote. "I am very proud of what we have achieved during my time at Stoke, and it has been a great team of players to work with. I wish you all the best for the season ahead."

          12.02 BST -- DONE DEAL: This one has been brewing for a while, but here it is:

          12.00 BST: He's been one of the names most often mentioned when clubs are looking for a striker -- but QPR's Charlie Austin says that, unless anyone knows differently, he will be focusing on the challenge of trying to get the Londoners back to the Premier League. He told their official website: "Until I'm told otherwise, I'm a QPR player and I'm preparing for the Championship next year. If I'm told otherwise, then so be it."

          11.45 BST: Real Madrid and goalkeepers -- a recurring theme of the summer. And here it is again: Espanyol have rejected a €4 million Madrid offer for goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, telling the Bernabeu club that they must substantially increase it if they are to sign him.

          11.30 BST: Hanover could be set to sign Saint-Etienne striker Mevlut Erding, kicker reports. It quotes Erding's agent, Pierre Frelot, as saying: "The Bundesliga is a great league and Hanover is a good club for Mevlut. But nothing is decided yet." It is thought Hanover would have to pay in the region of €5 million for Erding, 28.

          11.15 BST: Tuttosport is linking Arsenal star Mesut Ozil with a potential move to Juventus. Its report says the Arsenal playmaker, 26, is good friends with fellow Germany international Sami Khedira, who joined the Italian champions earlier this summer.

          10.50 BST: Liverpool and Fiorentina could be lining up a swap deal for Mario Balotelli and Mario Gomez, reports in the Italian and German media have said. Italian international Balotelli has endured a nightmare spell at Liverpool, scoring only one Premier League goal, and did not travel with the squad for their preseason trips to Thailand and Australia. German striker Gomez managed only four goals in Serie A last season.

          10.37 BST: Another thing for Brendan to think about: Liverpool youngster Jerome Sinclair has turned down the offer of a new deal and asked to leave the club, sources have told ESPN FC. Sinclair is highly regarded at Anfield and was handed his Premier League debut as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge towards the end of last season.

          10.30 BST: Brendan Rodgers is keeping his cards close to his chest this summer. Speaking at a news conference on the club's preseason tour to Bangkok, he had this to say to transfer-related questions: "Transfers is not really something I want to go into in a press conference. I spent a lot of last season talking about transfers, and don't intend to this year. Any business done will be done behind the scenes."

          You can't really blame him if he feels as though he's already had enough Raheem Sterling questions to last a lifetime...

          10.12 BST: One minute newly-promoted Norwich City were reported to be interested in Celta Vigo striker Joaquin Larrivey -- the next minute, they're not. After reports that the Argentine had travelled to England to seal a move, it's now being suggested that the prospective deal has fallen through.

          10.00 BST: Espanyol president Joan Collet has said the club will not be selling goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to Real Madrid for the €4 million fee mentioned in some Spanish media reports. He said: "That figure neither reflects the value of the player nor our club -- it's a very low fee. I will not sit down and negotiate for €4 million. We haven't negotiated."

          And that, for now, would appear to be that.

          09.45 BST: A snippet from Germany, where out-of-contract former Eintracht Frankfurt defender Alexander Madlung is considering a return to Hertha Berlin, according to kicker.

          09.30 BST: You'll hear no complaints from Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol if Yoann Gourcuff returns to the club.

          Gourcuff, 29, is currently without a club after his contract with Lyon ran out last month. The France international midfielder's five-year spell there was beset by injury problems, denying him the chance to build on the promise shown when he helped Bordeaux to the 2008-09 Ligue 1 title.

          09.15 BST: Schalke will have to pay €18 million euros to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan, Bild reports, with the Switzerland international having turned down a move to Stoke. The paper says any deal will depend on the Bundesliga club's ability to raise around €10 million towards it through player sales.

          09.00 BST: Roma director of sport Walter Sabatini flew to England on Sunday night -- and reports in Italy suggest that, when he returns, he will have secured the signature of Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. With Roma poised to sell Alessio Romagnoli to AC Milan for more than €20 million, the funds for a Dzeko bid would be there.

          08.30 BST: Former Fulham defender Aaron Hughes has become the latest to join the Australian A-League, moving to Melbourne City. Read the story here.

          08.00 BST: Wolfsburg forward Ivan Perisic is wanted by Inter Milan and the Italian club have tabled an offer, according to his agent and Bild.

          PAPER ROUND:

          Blues line up Copa America talent

          Jose Mourinho already has a midfield stocked with combative players, but he could soon add another to aid his Champions League aspirations next season.

          The Star reports that the Blues coach is after Chile star Charles Aranguiz, with the club in talks with the 26-year-old's Brazilian club Internacional over an £8 million transfer.

          The midfielder impressed as Chile lifted the Copa America on home soil this summer, and although Manchester City are also interested in Aranguiz the paper says Chelsea are leading the chase after City boss Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Txiki Begiristain "dithered" having already scouted him.

          Arsenal have been heavily linked with Aranguiz, but Chelsea are England's smoothest operators in the transfer market. When you're up against Stamford Bridge negotiators, it pays to be quick.

          PSG prepare massive Di Maria offer

          With United making their moves for Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger, increased competition for midfield starting roles at Old Trafford is fuelling talk of an impending exit for Angel Di Maria.

          Laurent Blanc confirmed on Sunday that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the Argentina international given that UEFA have lifted financial fair play restrictions on the French champions, though he admitted a deal will be tough due to other suitors and the sheer cost of the transfer.

          The Guardian reports that PSG have readied an offer of £47 million and will make a formal offer to United and Di Maria's agent Jorge Mendes.

          The 27-year-old is expected to want a tasty contract of around £185,000-a-week at the Parc des Princes, though the Ligue 1 winners are hoping for a package closer to £130,000-a-week. In any case, the paper reports "a compromise is likely to be attainable."

          With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani set to stay in Paris this summer, Blanc's side could be worth a bet for Champions League glory next season.

          Another United player whose future may lie in Turkey is Victor Valdes, though AS reports that the player's agent says there has been no contact with Super Lig side Antalyaspor about the goalkeeper.

          Gines Carvajal said: "Some people from Turkey have contacted me to negotiate the signing of Victor, but I've never spoken with the president of the Turkish club. I do not know."

          United's other keeper, one David De Gea, now looks set to be staying at Old Trafford, with the Sun reporting that the Red Devils have issued Real Madrid with an ultimatum: buy him before our US tour or wait until next summer.

          This story could rumble on for a while, then.

          Sterling deal a bonus for QPR

          Queens Park Rangers fans have not had the best summer: their side was relegated from the Premier League last season and star striker Charlie Austin looks destined for an exit.

          What will boost the Loftus Road faithful -- and owner Tony Fernandez -- is news that Manchester City's imminent capture of Raheem Sterling will result in a massive pay day for the West London club.

          According to the Mail, QPR had a 20 percent sell-on clause inserted into the deal for Sterling when the forward signed for Liverpool for a mere £500,000 as a 15-year-old in 2010.

          With sources telling ESPN FC that City and Liverpool have agreed a £49 million deal for Sterling, QPR will pocket a cool £9 million.

          The deal for Sterling will cost City a reported £100 million in fees and wages, so that clause now looks an inspired piece of business from QPR.

          Delph dissuaded from City by wary teammates

          Although Man City are set to land one England international, with Sterling nearing his bumper move, another was warned off the Etihad Stadium by former Three Lions hopefuls who know better.

          Fabian Delph had his £8 million release clause activated by City, but the Aston Villa midfielder turned down a move to Manchester earlier this week.

          The Mirror reports that Villa teammates Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair -- both former England hopefuls who saw their careers stall at City -- played a "crucial role" in convincing Delph that his career would be better served by staying at Villa Park.

          City have seen James Milner leave for more first team opportunities at Liverpool, and it seems more England players are cottoning on to the fact that sitting on City's bench may not be the best way to make Roy Hodgson sit up and take notice.

          Tap-ins

          - Having impressed for Crystal Palace over the past two seasons, Dwight Gayle is being targeted by Premier League new boys Norwich, according to the Mirror.

          With added competition a given at Selhurst Park next term, a switch to Carrow Road may offer the forward the guaranteed starts he is reportedly craving.

          - The weekend couldn't get much better for Crystal Palace fans after the signing of Yohan Cabaye from PSG, but the Croydon Advertiser reports that the Eagles are set to announce a new contract for Everton target Scott Dann on Monday.

          - One player who looks to be on his way out of London is Benjamin Stambouli, with the Mirror reporting that Watford have agreed a £4 million deal to sign the Tottenham midfielder.
