Power Rankings: Real Madrid rule; Chelsea, Bayern, Barca chase

The latest edition of Shaka Hislop's Power Rankings see nine of last week's clubs still in the top 10 as Europe's elite clubs maintain their scorching form.

1. Real Madrid (no change)

Carlo Ancelotti's side goes from strength to strength with two more wins this week to extend its club record to 17 in all competitions. A character-building 2-1 win at Malaga was followed by a routine 5-0 Copa del Rey thrashing of minnow UD Cornella in which James Rodriguez scored twice. Real are still top of La Liga with a two-point edge over Barcelona. Don't expect that to change any time soon.

2. Chelsea (no change)

After a 0-0 draw with Sunderland, Jose Mourinho's men retain second place behind Real thanks to their perfect midweek response: a 3-0 thrashing of Tottenham, which haven't won at Stamford Bridge in roughly a quarter-century. What made Wednesday's win over Spurs so menacing was that some key reserves stepped up, as both Didier Drogba and Loic Remy scored to prove that they are not lacking for firepower. It's hard to imagine anyone catching, or even keeping pace with, the Blues in the Premier League.

3. Bayern Munich (no change)

The Bavarian giants were deceptively brilliant in a 1-0 win at Hertha Berlin on Saturday. Though Arjen Robben scored their only goal, the stats (79 percent possession, 15 shots) showed their continued class.

4. Barcelona (no change)

Business as usual? A 4-0 win in the Copa del Rey -- Ivan Rakitic was especially impressive vs. third-tier Huesca -- followed a somewhat fortunate 1-0 win at Valencia on Sunday thanks to Sergio Busquets' goal in injury time. Luis Enrique is still figuring out his optimal tactics, but as long as they keep accumulating wins, they will be present in the Power Rankings.

5. Juventus (+1)

Just one game this week for the "Old Lady" but their dramatic 2-1 derby win over Torino was yet more proof of their fortitude: after Bruno Peres' sensational equalizer, Juve left it late until Andrea Pirlo's latest bit of brilliance gave them all three points. Many expected them to dip under new manager Massimiliano Allegri, but it hasn't quite happened yet.

6. Atletico Madrid (+1)

The weekend's 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna was followed by a second clean sheet of the week in a 3-0 Copa win over l'Hospitalet kept Diego Simeone's side on a winning track. The defending Liga champions are third and within touching distance of the "big two."

7. Manchester City (+1)

If City are to retain their league title, they'll need to stay in the kind of form they're in at the moment. Sweeping aside Sunderland 4-1 in midweek followed an eye-opening 3-0 win at Southampton in which they scored twice after being reduced to 10 men. Sergio Aguero (14 goals in 14 Prem games) continues to lead from the front in what will soon become a two-horse race atop the Premier League.

8. Roma (+1)

Two goals from highly rated (and highly coveted) midfielder Miralem Pjanic helped the Giallorossi to a 4-2 win over Internazionale on Sunday, further proof of their title aspirations. Overtaking Juve in Serie A -- the gap is currently just three points between the two -- will be no easy feat but Rudi Garcia's side are primed to take advantage of any slip.

9. Paris Saint-Germain (-4)

With so many clubs moving slowly up the rankings, someone had to fall and it's Laurent Blanc's side in the French capital. A narrow 1-0 weekend win over Nice -- their ninth straight in all competitions -- segued into a disappointing 1-1 draw with Lille on Wednesday, a result that keeps them in second place in Ligue 1. News that their talismanic striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will reportedly struggle with injury all season doesn't bode well either.

10. Marseille (new)

Marcelo Bielsa's side still retain top spot in Ligue 1 despite a 1-1 draw with Lorient on Tuesday having beaten Nantes 2-0 just four days earlier. The scoring form of Andre-Pierre Gignac (11 league goals this season) is giving big-money PSG plenty of challenges atop the table.
