Aston Villa challenged by Seaford to find England's most boring team

You probably don't need us to tell you that things are at a decidedly low ebb at Aston Villa at the moment, with Paul Lambert's shot-shy side managing to score a frankly dismal 11 league goals so far this season in the space of 22 games.

However, while Villa fans are perfectly entitled to moan, they should really spare a thought for supporters of non-league Seaford Town, one of the only clubs in the top 10 divisions of English football with a worse goal record than Lambert's impotent mob.

East Cowes Victoria Athletic of the Wessex League Division One can lay claim to the worst record, with just seven goals scored. But Seaford don't fare too much better.

Seaford are currently rock bottom of the Sussex County League Division Two table having scored a paltry 10 goals (conceding 61 at the other end!) over the course of their 20 straight defeats so far this season.

To that end, Seaford have challenged Villa to a duel: one "loser takes all" playoff to decide, once and for all, just which of the two sides can rightfully claim to be the most boring team in the country.

Seaford chairman Bob Thompsett told The Sun: "I'd like to invite Villa down here so we can decide once and for all who is England's most boring team. It would be loser takes all if you like. Paul Lambert has looked a bit down in the dumps lately so I'd like to cheer him up.

"I'm sure his players would enjoy themselves down here. Our pitch does have a few holes in it -- but my wife Chrissie does the best teas in the division."

Tempting, no doubt. However, as was written in the prophecy, there is ... another.

Seaford have confirmed that they are also seeking to arrange a similar fixture against fellow stragglers Stewart and Lloyds Corby FC from Northamptonshire, who have lost all of their 24 games so far this season, scoring a paltry 16 goals while shipping an impressive 96 at the other end.

We can hardly wait. That one's got "instant classic" written all over it.
