Man United's Javier Hernandez not for sale after West Ham enquiry - sources

Manchester United have rebuffed an enquiry from West Ham United for striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, sources have told ESPN FC.

West Ham are in the market for a new striker this summer and they have expressed an interest in the 27-year-old.

However, United have snubbed the Hammers' interest in the Mexico international and told them the forward is not for sale.

Louis van Gaal said earlier this week that Hernandez would be given a chance to resurrect his Old Trafford career in the wake of Robin van Persie's departure to Fenerbahce.

Hernandez was expected to leave United this summer after he was farmed out on loan at Real Madrid last summer by Van Gaal.

The forward made only two appearances under Van Gaal last season before the Dutch coach sanctioned a temporary switch to the Bernabeu after bringing in Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco.

Hernandez struggled for regular action at Los Blancos despite an impressive end to the campaign, and the Spanish giants opted not to take up the option of signing him on a permanent basis.

With Falcao not having his loan move turned into a permanent deal and Van Persie offloaded to Fenerbahce, Van Gaal has a shortage of strikers available to him and he is now preparing to give the Mexico international a second chance at United.

Hernandez is entering the final year of his contract at United, and the striker is set to link up with Van Gaal's side for preseason training once he recovers from a shoulder injury.
