Western Sydney Wanderers playmaker Mitch Nichols has been fined AU$1,000 for his offensive gesture towards Brisbane fans following last month's thrilling A-League semifinal win over the Roar.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) cited Nichols after the former long-serving Brisbane player ran 50 metres at Pirtek Stadium to deliver the offensive gesture and blow kisses towards the Brisbane fans.
Despite the Roar filing a formal complaint, Nichols remained free to play in the Grand Final against Adelaide United on May 1, only being required to submit his response to FFA last Wednesday -- three days after the 3-1 loss.
The FFA on Tuesday finally determined Nichols had breached its National Code of Conduct and sanctioned the 26-year-old to the tune of $1000.
It took into consideration that he was remorseful and apologetic for his behaviour.
