What would a Liga MX All-Star Game look like?

Given that it's a real thing for most North American sports leagues, we went through a hypothetical exercise as to what would happen if the Liga MX Bancomer had an All-Star break, with an ensuing competition featuring the competition's best players. The results were as follows:


The ESPN All-Star Game will be held at Estadio Azul as a way of honoring the storied venue days before its scheduled demolition.

Oribe Peralta and Andre-Pierre Gignac will be team captains because of their place among the best players in Mexican soccer. Team Oribe will boast a roster full of Mexican players on its roster while Team Gignac will feature the most outstanding foreign players from the 2018 Clausura.

Miguel Herrera, who currently has America atop the league's standings, will manage the team led by Peralta; Robert Dante Siboldi, the Santos manager whose team is currently in second place on goal difference just below Las Aguilas, will be manning the bench of the "imports" team.

Introducing Team Gignac

Agustin Marchesín, GK, Club America: The goalie has played every single minute of his team in the 2018 Clausura and has been a key for America in keeping its current undefeated record.

Luis Advincula, RB, Lobos BUAP: The Peru-born player has become an indisputable figure with Lobos BUAP. He has only lost one match because of a previous red card.

Igor Lichnovsky, CB, Necaxa: He has become a breakthrough for Necaxa this season, with the Chile international playing every minute of this tournament so far.

Pablo Aguilar, CB, Club Tijuana: He is the soul of Tijuana's defense, the one that has allowed the fewest goals in Liga MX this season.

Leonel Vangioni, LB, Monterrey: The midfielder has had an outstanding performance for Monterrey, currently sitting third in the standings.

Keisuke Honda, RM, Pachuca: The Japan international has scored four goals and has four assists. He is an indisputable presence for Pachuca.

Osvaldo Martinez, CM, Santos Laguna: The midfielder has a goal and three assists for Santos.

Mateus Uribe, CM, Club America: He's currently the primary playmaker for America and has two goals of his own so far.

Matias Alustiza, LM, Pumas U.N.A.M.: He already has two goals and two assists in his first stint with Pumas.

Djaniny Tavares, ST, Santos Laguna: He is the current scoring leader in Liga MX Bancomer with 10 goals for Santos.

Introducing Team Peralta

Gibran Lajud, GK, Club Tijuana: He is the goalie who has allowed the least amount of goals in the competition so far.

Luis Rodríguez, RB, Tigres U.A.N.L.: Currently serves as starting right wing-back for Tigres with one assist during the current Clausura.

Hugo Ayala, CB, Tigres U.A.N.L.: He has played every minute of the 2018 Clausura at center-back for Tigres.

Nestor Araujo, CB, Santos Laguna: His leadership and positional awareness has made him an important piece in the Santos defense.

Miguel Ponce, LB, Necaxa: An automatic starter for Necaxa, he's clocked as many minutes as possible so far this season.

Jose Juan Vasquez, CM, Santos Laguna The midfielder is in charge of winning possession and distributing the ball for Santos.

Rodolfo Pizarro, CM, Chivas: One of Chivas' few bright spots these days, he's able to run back and forth all over the field in a bit to recover the ball and kick-start the counterattack.

Erick Gutierrez, CM, Pachuca: The Pachuca captain has been outstanding through the Clausura's first half, with three goals scored.

Alfonso Gonzalez, AM, Monterrey: He's playing his best football with Monterrey, a team where he's currently leading scorer with four goals.

Oribe Peralta, ST, Club America: The America captain has scored twice so far in this year's tournament, in which he has played the longest for his side.

ST: Henry Martin, ST, Club America: With five goals, he's the leading scorer among Mexican-born players at the current tournament. He also has two assists for Los Aguilas.
