Paris Saint-Germain have announced that right-back Alec Georgen has signed a two-year contract extension until 2020.
The 18-year-old youth academy graduate played just three minutes of competitive senior football this season in a late substitute appearance in the 4-1 Coupe de la Ligue semifinal win away at Bordeaux.
"I am very honoured and extremely proud to extend my contract," Georgen told PSG's official website. "It is a great show of confidence from the club and it encourages me, and motivates me, even more for my future with PSG.
"For a young player like myself, the priority is to try and play as much as possible, gain as much experience as possible and show that I have what it takes to play at the highest level. Obviously my ultimate goal is to make a place for myself at PSG."
Georgen's father and the player himself were reported to be unhappy about a lack of minutes after a loan move to Ligue 2 side Le Havre was blocked last summer.
The player's sudden change of heart regarding a contract extension suggests that there could be movement at right-back this summer, with Thomas Meunier set to begin next term as the starter in that role and Serge Aurier heavily linked with a move away.
Ivory Coast international Aurier is reported to be interested in a move away and his entourage have been pushing for his exit for some time. Despite his numerous controversies off the pitch, chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi does not want to let him leave.
It could be that Georgen has been promised either a role as Meunier's understudy with regular minutes domestically and a taste of continental action -- in the event of Aurier's departure -- or a loan move to a team where he will feature regularly.
Midfielder Lorenzo Callegari is in a similar position but has not yet signed a new contract, while striker Jean-Kevin Augustin -- currently impressing at the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea -- could be on the move after failing to impress Emery.
Another possibility is that Youssouf Sabaly, who will return to PSG after a loan spell with Bordeaux, remains at the club as he can play at both right and left back.
With Maxwell no longer an option on the left, Layvin Kurzawa needs a backup and Sabaly could also be another option on the right behind Meunier, Georgen and possibly Aurier if he stays.
