Kolo Toure set for Celtic coaching role under Brendan Rodgers

Kolo Toure could be mentored by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as he learns the coaching trade during another season with the Scottish champions.

Toure, 36, made nine league appearances last term as part of the Celtic side that went unbeaten throughout the campaign en route to lifting the title.

Now out of contract, the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender told RMC he is in talks with a number of sides, though negotiations with Celtic are "the most advanced" with the prospect of moving towards the dug-out under Rodgers' tutelage an attractive one.

"That's the most likely scenario," the former Ivory Coast international said, and added he still has "the legs to continue for one or two seasons."

Toure added: ''I love football too much to stop now, but I'm also thinking about after my career. Brendan is OK for me to learn the job in parallel."

Toure did not feature often on the pitch during Celtic's historic 2016-17 season, but became a popular member of the squad.

After a sixth successive title, and the club's 48th overall, was clinched with a 5-0 thumping of Hearts, the rest of the Celtic squad delivered a dressing room rendition of Toure's terrace chant.
