JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It took Jordy Nelson all of two quarters to catch his first touchdown pass in more than 21 months.
In his first game after missing all of last season because of a torn ACL in his right knee, the Green Bay Packers' Pro Bowl receiver made a diving catch for a 6-yard touchdown with 3:05 left in the first half of Sunday's season opener at Jacksonville.
"It was good," he said. "Obviously great to be back out there helping the team win a game. Getting in the end zone's always fun, especially getting the first one out of the way and get the first win."
Nelson played the entire first quarter without a catch and then had three receptions on the second-quarter scoring drive, including the touchdown. Three plays earlier, he caught his first pass of the season and showed some burst through a hole to turn a short pass into an 8-yard gain. Two plays later, he caught a 6-yard pass on a back-shoulder throw from Aaron Rodgers to set up the touchdown.
Nelson finished with six catches for 32 yards and the touchdown in the Packers' 27-23 victory over the Jaguars.
Nelson said he was hesitant to talk about any expectations for his return before the game because "it's the unknown."
"You don't know how the body is going to react, you don't know how you're going to handle it," he said. "Everyone is worried about rep count. That's why I said from the get-go, it depends on the flow of the game."
The Packers held Nelson out of all preseason games this summer. Nelson tore his ACL on Aug. 23, 2015, in a preseason game against the Steelers and missed all of last season. His last touchdown catch before Sunday came on Dec. 21, 2014, at Tampa Bay.
In the 2014 season, Nelson caught 98 passes for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.
