GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals right guard Evan Mathis left Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots in the second quarter with a left foot injury before returning in the third quarter.
Mathis suffered the injury on a 2-yard run by Cardinals running back Chris Johnson with 6:47 left in the second quarter. Arizona converted a third down on the play, which eventually led to a Cardinals touchdown, cutting the Patriots' lead to 10-7.
Earl Watford, the Cardinals' versatile backup offensive lineman who can play all five positions across the line, took Mathis' spot at right guard.
The 34-year-old Mathis signed with the Cardinals in March as a free agent. He and the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 last season.
