MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker was carted off with an injury to his right leg in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Left tackle Taylor Lewan was ruled out with a concussion and quarterback Marcus Mariota was sidelined by an elbow injury.
Walker was taken off the field with an air cast on his right leg. He went down awkwardly as he was tackled by Dolphins safety T.J. McDonald. The training staff sent a cart to him immediately.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Walker suffered a dislocated ankle on the play but the medical staff was able to pop it back in.
The trainers put a towel over Walker's head as they fitted him with an air cast before lifting him onto the cart and taking him into the locker room. Walker caught a 15-yard pass from backup Titans quarterback Blaine Gabbert before being tackled.
"I haven't seen him since he left the field. Our thoughts and our prayers are with him. It certainly didn't look good from where I was standing," Titans coach Mike Vrabel said during his postgame news conference.
It is unknown how long Walker will be out, but more details are expected Monday after further evaluation.
Lewan suffered a vicious hit by Dolphins defensive lineman Andre Branch during Reshad Jones' interception return before the second of two play suspensions due to lightning strikes in the area.
Fights broke out as Lewan lay motionless on the field. Dolphins defensive back Bobby McCain and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Titans running back Dion Lewis was also flagged after the fights.
"I have to take a look at it, but I think more will be talked about when we take a look at the hit. Was it legal? I don't know," Vrabel explained when asked about the hit on Lewan. "You have to take care of guys out there. If that's the plan, we have to be careful. I want us to play hard and compete, but I don't want us to be dirty or do anything that costs the team."
The second delay of two delays lasted 2 hours, 20 minutes. After play resumed, Mariota threw his second interception on a tipped pass that was grabbed by the Dolphins' Kiko Alonso.
Mariota was removed from the game in favor of backup Gabbert on Tennessee's next drive after trying to work through the elbow injury.
"I am all right. I couldn't feel my fingers. I couldn't feel my hand. I am not going to use that as an excuse. I should have probably thought about it hard and made sure I was making the best decision for the team," Mariota said after the game.
Mariota suffered the injury to his elbow earlier in the game on a hit by the Dolphins' William Hayes. The hit came as Mariota was executing a read-pass option. He raised his hands toward the referee after he was hit.
Said Mariota: "I thought it was late and low, but that's not a decision for me to make. I wanted to make the officials aware of it, but it's a referee's determination."
Added Vrabel: "He took a hit on his shoulder and elbow area so we will see where he is at moving forward. [Official Jerome Boger] thought if Marcus is carrying out a fake we have to be careful. He said that it was legal. That was probably the play [Mariota] got hurt on. That's something we will take a look at, seeing where Marcus' health is and the same for everyone else."
