Cowboys turn tables on Giants with fumble return, trick play for TDs

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has done a lot of things so far this season, but now he has done something he has never done: catch a touchdown pass.

With 16 seconds left in the first half against the New York Giants on Sunday, Prescott caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Cedrick Wilson to give the host Cowboys a 24-20 lead.

Cowboys fans would not like the description, but it was "Philly Special"-esque, conjuring up Nick Foles' touchdown catch in Philadelphia's Super Bowl LII win against New England.

Wilson took a flip from running back Ezekiel Elliott and was able to float a pass over the head of Giants defender Kyler Fackrell, who scored in the first half on an interception return.

The previous non-quarterback to throw a touchdown pass for the Cowboys was wide receiver Dez Bryant, who hit tight end Jason Witten for a 10-yard score in 2016. The previous Cowboys quarterback to catch a touchdown pass was Danny White, who had a 12-yard score from James Jones on Sept. 22, 1985, against Cleveland.

Earlier in the second quarter, Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence sacked Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (the 40th of his career), beating rookie first-round pick Andrew Thomas off the edge and knocking the ball free for Anthony Brown to scoop up for the Cowboys' first defensive touchdown of the season -- a 29-yard return. The score tied the game at 17.

It was Lawrence's first full sack since Week 9 last season against the Giants, when he dropped Jones for a 7-yard loss in the first quarter.

Lawrence, who is in the second year of a five-year, $101 million deal, had gone 488 snaps without a sack entering the game.
